Moving FAQs

Relocating to a new home, state or country can be among the most chaotic events in life that can turn your world upside down. Hence, in order to make your move smooth, you need to focus, plan and know exactly what you need to do. The below mentioned questions may help you plan your move better –

Should I contact movers in advance?

The answer to your question is – yes. This is one of the most frequently asked moving questions. Often, people are not aware exactly when to contact a relocation company. It advisable to start contacting your movers at least one month in advance. When it comes to availing the services of a moving company, it is always – the earlier, the better!

Can I get an estimate? How?

An estimate is the notification of average cost of your move. This guess is based on your inventory, distance, tariff and the type of service you have selected. The best way to get a moving estimate is to ask for a quote from the moving company you are planning to hire.

How do I know that the moving company I have selected is licensed or insured?

You can easily check if the moving company is licensed and insured by browsing through the information on their website. You can also contact their customer helpline number and ask for the information. If they are licensed, by law they are required to provide limited liability protection. Some companies also provide free insurance or refer agents they work with, if you require full coverage to your belongings.

How long will it take to relocate to my new home?

Every move is different and the time it takes to complete varies a lot. It may depend upon the size of your home, the type of assets you own and the distance. If you are moving in the same city, it may take up to 4-5 hours to pack and relocate. Long distance moves may take one or more days.

Can I pack my furniture and ask the movers to relocate it?

Almost every moving company provides two options – self-service move and a full-service move. In self-service move, you are required to pack all the items and the mover will take care of loading the truck, take your furniture to a new location and unloading it. In a full-service move, the movers are required to take care of all the requirements including packaging, loading, unloading and unpacking.
